two-handed forehand stays???
got back from my tennis lesson and my coach wanted to see me play with a two hand forehand..and guess what it great but the only problem is that i am a lefty....the two handed forehand was good but didnt go to the baseline..right at the middle but with great speed. i dont know what she told me but she wanted me to do a forehand because almost all players do that and dont have that kind of combo of....fore=two handed...backhand=one handed..anyone knows the down side of switching to a two handed forehand???the positives???
Very few players play with a two handed forehand, most notable Monica Seles, and John Michael Gamble. However both played with two handed forhands and two handed back hands. The majority of players today play with a two handed backhand and a one handed forehand, still many play with a one handed backhand and I have never heard of anyone playing with a two handed forehand and a one handed backhand(does your coach realize you are left handed???).
The big pro to using two hands is extra control and it is easier to hit an awkward shot with power with two handed stroke.
The biggest con to a two handed stroke is that it limits you reach, you must hit the ball closer to your body. That is why you will often see players who normally hit a two handed shot hit a one handed defensive shot when they get stretched wide on a shot. I personally believe that one handed stroke is more powerful of the two but also requires better timing and more practice to perfect.
Hope this helps, keep practicing, and make sure you coach realizes you are a lefty. In my 12 plus years of playing I have never seen anyone have a two handed forehand and a one handed back hand as their primary shots, and I am a tournament player.
