Asking for coaching tips for 11 and 12 year old girls softball.?
I am a first year head coach. I have assisted the past 2 years. I have all the equiptment to be used such as batting, pitching machine, 2 sets of catchers gear, pop-up back stops, you name it, I have it at my disposal. I have 12 girls on the team.
I had my pitcher and catcher working together today while the rest batted and feilded. With batting equiptment at my ready, should I set up 2 at batting and then the rest fielding, that leaves me 8 fielding.
Just any ideas would help on ways to get it to mesh together.

I used to divide them into three groups of four.
Group 1 would practice hitting golf ball size wiffle balls
1 hits, 1 tosses, 2 pick up then all rotate until all 4 get a chance to bat
Group 2 would play infield positions as assigned by coach while
Group 3 would bat live pitching and run bases (pitching and catching done by coach or parent)
After every one gets a chance to bat and run bases
Group 1 moves to batting
Group 2 moves to wiffle ball
Group 3 moves to infield
All 12 are involved in action, everyone gets a lot of swings, every one gets an opportunity to play infield
I also used the same 3 group method to play a "2" inning game at the end of practice
Group 1 batted while 2 and 3 played (and pitched, coach umps and catches) after 3 outs, group 1 goes to field group 2 bats for 3 outs, then they return to the field while group 3 bats. Let the kids keep score and even coach bases when they are up to bat, and be sure to change groups next practice Sometimes, I would put a parent or brother or sister in right field, left field, or 1st base and suit up a catcher for 6 outs. This practice helps develop backup pitchers and catchers and allows the girls to play in different spots. For a coach you get the opportunity to see where each of the team members shine, who you can use as back ups when something happens, who has the best glove and arm, and helps you set up a batting order because they all get multiple times at the plate.
