Physics HW! Best answer for first who answers most of the questions?
I had 80 physics questions for hw! I need help on some of them =(
Please show work so I can learn how to do it myself next time.
3. A roller coaster, traveling with an initial speed of 15 meters per second squared to a full stop. Approximately how far does the roller coaster travel during its deceleration?
(A) 1.0m
(B) 2.0m
(C) 16m
(D) 32m
6. Which term represents a scalar quantity?
(A) distance
(B) displacement
(C) Force
(D) Weight
7. An apple weighing 1 Newton on the surface of Earth has a mass of approximately
(A)1 x 10^(-1)
(B)1 x 10^(0)
(C)1 x 10^(1)
(D)1 x 10^(2)
8. In which situation is the net force on the object equal to zero?
(A) a satellite moving at constant speed around Earth in a circular orbit
(B) an automobile braking to a stop
(C) a bicycle moving at constant speed on a straight, level road
(D) a pitched baseball being hit by a bat
11. Which is a vector quantity?
(A)distance
(B)speed
(C)power
(D)force
3. A roller coaster, traveling with an initial speed of 15 meters per second squared to a full stop. Approximately how far does the roller coaster travel during its deceleration?
(A) 1.0m
(B) 2.0m
(C) 16m
(D) 32m
Sorri. but I do not understand this question. Seems incomplete to me.
6. Which term represents a scalar quantity?
(A) distance
(B) displacement
(C) Force
(D) Weight
A) distance. Note that displacement is its vector 'cousin'. I do not know at which level you are, but a vector is basically what is called a FUNCTION in mathematics, and this would have an equation, eg, displacement S(t) = some function of time t.
Scalars are 'numbers', like, for distance, we give a number like 1 meter.
7. An apple weighing 1 Newton on the surface of Earth has a mass of approximately
(A)1 x 10^(-1)
(B)1 x 10^(0)
(C)1 x 10^(1)
(D)1 x 10^(2)
W =F = ma, and a ~ 9.8 m/sec^2. or
W = m*9.8 = 1 Newton , so
m ~ 1/10 kg. Answer is A)
8. In which situation is the net force on the object equal to zero?
(A) a satellite moving at constant speed around Earth in a circular orbit
(B) an automobile braking to a stop
(C) a bicycle moving at constant speed on a straight, level road
(D) a pitched baseball being hit by a bat
Ans is C). You can eliminate B and D, since anything 'stopping' is being acted upon by some force that makes it stop!
Motio in a circle: it's not easy to see, but it is constantly being 'pulled' into the center. That is what keeps it moving!
11. Which is a vector quantity?
(A)distance
(B)speed
(C)power
(D)force
Again, which is usually expressed as a 'function'? Distance is the scalar cousin of displacement, speed is the scalar cousin of velocity; Power ...
but Force is always expressed as a vector quantity, being F = ma, scalar m, times acceleration vector a.
Answer is D.
