My husband and I want to start our own business.?
I was laid off after many years at my job but my husband is still working. We have 2 kids, 10 & 1, and would like to start a unique gift shop where we live. Our town is just starting to build major stores & restuarants. I'm confident that what we want to do will be successful, but scared also since it's a major decision. One that will ultimately affect our whole family. Our daughter plays travel softball 9 mths out of the year. But this business would mean a lot to us. Any advice? I have no desire to sit behind a desk and push paper like I did for all those years. My husband is a press operator and makes labels (like you would see on a milk jug, or a package of ham/turkey at the store, etc. etc.)
Making this decision can be difficult. Since it does involve your whole family, it will be important to consider the short and long term effects on your family when considering both the pros and cons of different types of businesses. Depending on your business skill level, you may want to consider one of the many "franchise" type businesses. As they say, "They allow you to be in business for yourself but not by yourself." The support structures of these business formats can make a huge difference in your eventual success.
