i need a little info on my new bow if any one could help me please?
This last year i really got into hunting, i mean i have hunted since i was little but i never bow hunted. i decided to go and buy myself a bow so i went down with my tax money and bought a hoyt katera with a rip cord rest, a toxoics 3 pin sight, and easton axis full metal jacket arrows ionly shoot 100 grain arrows. but i feet per second isnt what is says it should be on the net. it says it should shoot 330 fps and when i bought it it only shoot 270 the guy that sold it to me told me how to boost up the lbs on it and i did and it didnt increase the fps at all i was wondering if it could be the factory string that came on the bow or maybe i need some new arrows. if any one could help me out on this situation that would be great, thanks and the weight of my arrows is 11.3 gpi and my draw is 28/12 and any pointers that anyone could heelp me on since i am a beginner who really wants to become an avid archer anything would be awsome
The Hoyt Katera was the top of the line bow for Hoyt when it first came out. I'm going to give you some advice here that will be the single most important thing you could ever know about bow hunting deer with a bow- ACCURACY KILLS! SPEED DOESN'T! Nothing else matters in the world of bow hunting as much as accuracy. But there is a mindset among some bow hunters that make them want the fastest bows on the market. And the manufacturers know this. And the FPS they advertise is totally false. And even on the bows that did have an accurate feet per second rating they achieved it by shooting an arrow and tip that was so light in weight it would destroy your bow if shot very much using that light of an arrow. The manufacturers claims of the high fps achieved by their bows are BOGUS! Concentrate on getting the most accuracy you can out of your bow and forget all about the speed factor. But if your bow is shooting an arrow at 270 feet per second that weighs 11 gpi that is extremely fast.Because the arrow you are shooting is one of the heaviest on the market. With a good broad head you should have no trouble getting complete pass throughs on your deer. And man, welcome to the world of bowhunting. There just isn't anything else in the world like it.
