Help building snake enclosure?
Okay, I'm building a cage for my BP, but I don't know what kind of wood preservative to use (or if I should even use one at all).
The bottom of the cage is birch plywood with plexiglas on top, the frame is poplar, and the walls are also birch plywood. The front will be plexiglas doors, and the top will be a screen lid.
I'm concerned about the walls of the cage. Will I need to use some kind of wood stain or preservative to protect it from misting? If so, which kind would be safe to use?
Thanks!
wow...I don't think these other two posters even read the question?
To answer it, yes you should finish the wood with a few coats of "polyurethane." Most wood 'warps' (bends/cracks/rots) when its constantly subjected to heat and moisture but polyurethane should prevent that from happening. You can get it at any home depot/lowes/paint store and it's completely safe as long as you let it dry completely before putting any animals near it. The label on the can should have directions on how to apply it and how many coats you should use.
It's probably worth your time if your planning on this enclosure lasting for a considerable amount of time. Hope that helps.
