Can I play little league baseball?
I've been thinking about some sports that I might like to play during the summer, and baseball sounds like it would be fun. I just want to know if I would have the talent to play on a team.
I'm 15, and I've never played baseball before. No batting cages or anything. I played high school soccer, and I also play hockey, if that helps. I consider myself fairly athletic and in shape. I'm just wondering if, with no prior experience, I would be able to learn the skills involved in the game and play on a little league team at my age.
How much is really involved in being able to pick up baseball and start playing? I don't expect to be very good, I just want to play and not look like a total loser.
Baseball is one of the hardest sports to learn from scratch. The rules are a lot more complicated then soccer and I can say this because I am a referee/umpire for both.
Also, one of the most difficult things to do is simply hit the ball. You could probably easily do everything else by being a good athlete, but if you can figure out how to hit the ball, it won't mean as much.
However, I'm not going to tell you not to do baseball, because it is an awesome sport. If you do want to try it, it will take a lot of work outside of practice to do well. Make sure you have a friend who plays baseball already who would be willing to put in that extra time practicing with you, playing catch, throwing you batting practice, etc... all of this in your free time.
