How come every city that has 2 MLB teams are in separate leagues?
New York Mets (National League)
New York Yankees (American League
Los Angeles Dodgers (National League)
Los Angeles Angels (American League)
Chicago Cubs (National League
Chicago White Sox (American League)
San Francisco Giants (NL)
As (AL)
Philadephia used to have 2 teams
They now have the Philles (NL)
They used to have the As (AL)
Boston used to have 2 teams
They now have the Red Sox (AL)
They used to have the Braves (NL)
St Louis used to have 2 teams
They now have the Cardinals (NL)
They used to have the Browns (AL)
same with Florida, Minnisota, Ohio and the DC area.
Why is it like this? Why are the teams in the same city always in a different league? They are both in the same area and very close to each other.
In the NBA the Lakers and Clippers are in the same conference, same with the Knicks and Nets and all the other teams in the same city. Why is it different for baseball?
Most of those teams that you have up there, have changed their names and were never two teams in one city. However, I suppose the Cubs/White Sox, and the others are put in different leagues so that it's better for baseball, and would help in sells and etc. The success rate for each team is better, the Lakers and Clippers being in the same conference, doesn't work well for the Clippers - they don't do well in terms of selling tickets and etc. The Nets are in New Jersey, the Knicks are in New York.
