How do I get my newest cockatiel used to me and my family?
I went to my feed store on Tuesday and they had a free cockateil someone had dropped him off there because he was mean and bit him. He is very young and very scared of people. I want to know how I can get him used to people with out harming him him goes crazy with every putting their hand in the cage.
I have another cockatiel and I have had her for 13 or 14 years so it nis not like I dont know the breed.
first of all, it is reccomended by vets that you keep new flock additions in a seperate room from current birds for thirty days to avoid passing on anything it couldve picked up before you got it
patience 
. if it looks nervous when you approach the cage, stop and stay still. if it doesnt return to normal activities quickly, then start backing off til he seems comfortable. work up to hand in the cage slowly.
