pleasee help mee with math
)!!?
1. Which cereal is the best buy?
A. a 14-ounce box for $1.98.
B. a 36-ounce box for $2.59.
C. a 1-ounce box for $0.15.
D. a 72-ounce box for $5.25.
#2. Which is the better average: 10 of 15 free throws or 8 of 10 free throws?
#3.Which is the better home- run rate: two home runs per 60 times at bat, or five home runs per 120 times at bat?
THANK YOU ..!
For #1 you want to put them in fraction form:
A. 14/1.98 = 7.1
B. 36/2.59 = 13.9
C. 1/.15 = 6.6
D. 72/5.25 = 13.7
Clearly choice B is the best buy.
For number two, also put these in fraction form:
10 of 15 = 10/15 = 2/3
8 of 10 = 8/10 = 4/5
So what is bigger, 2/3 or 4/5?
Get common denominator, which is obviously 15 and you have
2/3 = 10/15
4/5 = 12/15
And so the better average is 4/5 or 8 of 10 throws.
For number 3 the same:
2 per 60 = 2/60 = 1/30
5 per 120 = 5/120 = 1/24
LCD = 120
1/30 = 4/120
1/24 = 5/120
Clearly 5 home runs per 120 is better home-run rate.
Have a good day!
